The sky doesn’t look like that in North River Heights. I’ve seen it look like that in Montauk, though:
노스 리버 하이츠에서는 결코 볼 수 없는 하늘이었다. 예전에 몬톡에서 이런 하늘을 본 적이 있었다.
Montauk(몬톡)은 앞서 비아의 이야기(2부)에서 할머니가 사셨던 곳으로 언급되었습니다. 바다와 인접해 밤하늘이 무척 아름다운 곳이죠.

마치 누군가 반짝이는 검은 탁자 위에 소금을 뿌려 놓은 것 같은 그런 하늘 말이다.
I was so tired when I got back to the cabin that I didn’t need to pull out the book to read.
오두막으로 돌아왔을 때 나는 너무 피곤해서 굳이 책을 꺼내 읽을 필요도 없었다.
I fell asleep almost as fast as my head hit the pillow. And maybe I dreamed about the stars, I don’t know.
머리가 베개에 닿자마자 거의 바로 잠이 들었다. 어쩌면 별에 관한 꿈을 꾸었을지도 모르겠다.
The Fairgrounds
행사장
소제목 The Fairgrounds(행사장)와 함께 수련회 둘째 날의 일정이 시작됩니다.
The next day was just as great as the first day. We went horseback riding in the morning,
둘째 날도 첫째 날만큼이나 즐거웠다. 오전에는 승마 체험을 하러 갔다.
and in the afternoon we rappelled up some ginormous trees with the help of the nature guides.
오후에는 자연 탐방 가이드들의 도움을 받아 어마어마하게 큰 나무들에 매달려 레펠 등반을 했다.
rappelled(레펠 등반)은 로프를 이용해 암벽이나 높은 곳을 타고 내려오는 등반 기술을 말합니다.
By the time we got back to the cabins for dinner, we were all really tired again.
저녁을 먹으러 오두막에 돌아왔을 때 우리는 모두 다시 기진맥진한 상태였다.
After dinner they told us we had an hour to rest, and then we were going to take a fifteen-minute bus ride
저녁 식사 후, 한 시간 동안 휴식 시간을 가졌다. 그러고는 야외 영화 관람을 위해 버스를 타고 15분 정도 가야 했다.

목적지는 인근 행사장이었다.
fairgrounds(행사장)는 미국에서 마을 축제나 전시회, 야외 공연 등이 주로 열리는 넓은 대지를 의미합니다.
I hadn’t had the chance to write a letter to Mom and Dad and Via yet,
나는 아직 엄마와 아빠, 그리고 비아 누나에게 편지를 쓸 기회가 없었다.
so I wrote one telling them all about the stuff we did that day and the day before.
그래서 오늘과 어제 있었던 일들을 꼼꼼히 적어 편지를 썼다.
