After I finished, I just laid around in my bed, looking at the ceiling, and I smiled because it was a nice kind of quiet.
다 읽고 나서 침대에 누워 천장을 바라봤는데, 기분 좋은 고요함이 느껴져서 미소가 지어지더라.

Dear friend, I have to say something about my last letter. I know that Sam would never ask me to the dance.
안녕 친구야, 지난번 편지에 대해 할 말이 있어. 샘이 나한테 먼저 무도회에 가자고 하는 일은 절대 없을 거라는 거 나도 알아.
I know that she would bring Craig, and if not Craig, then Patrick since Brad’s girlfriend, Nancy, is going with Brad.
샘은 크레이그랑 갈 게 뻔하고, 크레이그가 아니라면 패트릭이랑 가겠지. 브래드의 여자친구인 낸시는 브래드랑 갈 테니까.
I think Mary Elizabeth is a really smart and pretty person, and I’m glad that she is my first date ever.
메리 엘리자베스는 정말 똑똑하고 예쁜 사람이라고 생각해. 내 생애 첫 데이트 상대가 걔라서 기뻐.
But after I said yes, and Mary Elizabeth announced it to the group, I wanted Sam to be jealous.
하지만 내가 데이트 신청을 받아들이고 메리 엘리자베스가 우리 무리에게 그 소식을 알렸을 때, 난 샘이 질투해주길 바랐어.
I know it’s wrong to want something like that, but I really did.

Sam wasn’t jealous, though. To tell you the truth, I don’t think she could have been happier about it, which was hard.

She even told me how to treat a girl on a date, which was very interesting.
샘은 심지어 데이트할 때 여자애를 어떻게 대해야 하는지도 가르쳐줬는데, 꽤 흥미로운 이야기였어.
She said that with a girl like Mary Elizabeth, you shouldn’t tell her she looks pretty.
메리 엘리자베스 같은 애한테는 예쁘다는 말을 하면 안 된대.
