Jonas went to his own desk and began to sort through his school papers for the evening’s assignment.

3장
3장이 시작됩니다. 아버지가 걱정하던 36번 아기 가브리엘을 집으로 데려온 시점으로 장면이 전환됩니다.
“OH, LOOK!” LILY squealed in delight. “Isn’t he cute? Look how tiny he is! And he has funny eyes like yours, Jonas!”
“어머, 이것 좀 보세요!” 릴리가 기뻐하며 소리를 질렀다. “정말 귀엽지 않아요? 진짜 조그마해요! 그리고 조너스 오빠처럼 눈이 아주 특이해요!”
Jonas glared at her. He didn’t like it that she had mentioned his eyes. He waited for his father to chastise Lily.
조너스는 릴리를 노려보았다. 자신의 눈 이야기를 꺼낸 것이 마음에 들지 않았다. 그는 아버지가 릴리를 꾸짖어주기를 기다렸다.

But Father was busy unstrapping the carrying basket from the back of his bicycle.

Jonas walked over to look. It was the first thing Jonas noticed as he looked at the newchild peering up curiously from the basket.
