The truck stopped. The geese cheered. Charlotte crouched and made herself as small as possible in the knothole, so Avery wouldn't see her.
트럭이 멈췄어요. 거위들이 환호성을 질렀지요. 샬롯은 에이머리에게 들키지 않으려고 옹이구멍 속에서 몸을 최대한 웅크려 아주 작게 만들었답니다.
“Come out at once!” cried Mrs. Arable. Avery crawled out of the crate on hands and knees, making faces at Wilbur.
“당장 나오렴!” 애러블 부인이 소리쳤어요. 에이머리는 윌버에게 익살스러운 표정을 지으며 엉금엉금 기어서 상자 밖으로 나왔어요.
Wilbur fainted away. “The pig has passed out,” said Mrs. Zuckerman. “Throw water on him!”
윌버는 기절해 버렸어요. “돼지가 정신을 잃었네요.” 저커먼 아주머니가 말했어요. “물을 좀 끼얹으세요!”
“Throw buttermilk!” suggested Avery. The geese cheered. Lurvy ran for a pail of water. Fern climbed into the pen and knelt by Wilbur's side.
“버터밀크를 끼얹어요!” 에이머리가 제안했어요. 거위들이 환호했지요. 러비는 물 양동이를 가지러 달려갔어요. 펀은 우리 안으로 올라가 윌버 곁에 무릎을 꿇었답니다.
“It's sunstroke,” said Zuckerman. “The heat is too much for him.” “Maybe he's dead,” said Avery.
“일사병이에요.” 저커먼 씨가 말했어요. “더위를 먹은 것 같군요.” “죽었나 봐요.” 에이머리가 말했어요.
“Come out of that pigpen immediately!” cried Mrs. Arable. Avery obeyed his mother and climbed into the back of the truck so he could see better.
“당장 그 돼지우리에서 나오렴!” 애러블 부인이 소리쳤어요. 에이머리는 엄마의 말에 순종해 트럭 짐칸으로 올라가서 상황을 지켜보았답니다.
Lurvy returned with cold water and dashed it on Wilbur.
러비가 찬물을 가져와 윌버에게 끼얹었어요.
“Throw some on me!” cried Avery. “I'm hot, too.” “Oh, keep quiet!” hollered Fern. “Keep qui-ut!” Her eyes were brimming with tears.
“나한테도 좀 뿌려줘요! 저도 덥단 말이에요.” 에이머리가 소리쳤어요. “아, 제발 좀 조용히 해!” 펀이 소리 질렀어요. “조용히 좀 하라고!” 펀의 눈에는 눈물이 가득 고여 있었어요.
에이머리의 철없는 행동과 펀의 절박한 눈물이 대비되며, 윌버를 향한 펀의 깊은 애정이 잘 나타나 있습니다.
Wilbur, feeling the cold water, came to. He rose slowly to his feet, while the geese cheered.
찬물을 맞은 윌버는 정신을 차렸어요. 거위들이 환호하는 가운데 윌버는 천천히 자리에서 일어났답니다.
