That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. We didn’t talk about anything heavy or light. We were just there together.

특별한 사건이나 거창한 대화 없이도, 그저 함께 존재함으로 얻는 평범한 일상의 소중함을 깨닫고 있습니다.
And that was enough. So, today my father went to work.
그거면 충분했어. 그래서 오늘은 아빠도 출근하셨지.
And my mother took my sister and me out to take care of last-minute things for my sister since she’s leaving for college in a few days.
엄마는 며칠 뒤면 대학으로 떠나는 누나의 마지막 뒷바라지를 해주려고 누나랑 나를 데리고 밖으로 나가셨어.
When we got back, I called Patrick’s house because he said that Sam should be home by then.
집에 돌아오자마자 패트릭네 집에 전화를 걸었어. 그때쯤이면 샘이 집에 와 있을 거라고 했거든.
Sam answered the phone. And it was so nice to hear her voice.
샘이 전화를 받았어. 샘의 목소리를 들으니 정말 좋더라고.
Later, they came by in Sam’s pickup truck. And we went to the Big Boy just like we always did.
나중에 애들이 샘의 픽업트럭을 타고 우리 집으로 왔어. 우린 예전처럼 다 같이 ‘빅 보이’ 식당으로 향했지.
Sam told us about her life at school, which sounded very exciting.
샘은 학교생활에 대해 이야기해 줬는데 정말 신나 보이더라.
And I told her about my life in the hospital, which didn’t. And Patrick made jokes to keep everyone honest.
난 병원 생활에 대해 이야기했는데, 전혀 신나지 않았어. 패트릭은 우리가 너무 진지해지지 않도록 계속 농담을 던졌지.
After we left, we got in Sam’s pickup truck, and just like Sam promised, we drove to the tunnel.
식당을 나와서 우린 샘의 픽업트럭에 올라탔어. 그리고 샘이 약속했던 대로 터널을 향해 달렸지.
샘의 약속대로 세 친구가 다시 뭉쳐 터널로 향하는 장면입니다.
About half a mile from the tunnel, Sam stopped the car, and I climbed in back.
터널을 800미터쯤 앞두고 샘이 차를 세웠고, 난 트럭 뒤 칸으로 올라갔어.
Patrick played the radio really loud so I could hear it, and as we were approaching the tunnel, I listened to the music
패트릭은 내가 들을 수 있게 라디오 볼륨을 아주 크게 높였어. 터널에 가까워지면서 난 흘러나오는 음악을 들었지.
and thought about all the things that people have said to me over the past year.
그러면서 지난 1년 동안 사람들이 나에게 해줬던 수많은 말들을 떠올렸어.
