THE THIRD AGREEMENT IS DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS. We have the tendency to make assumptions about everything.
세 번째 약속은 바로 함부로 추측하지 않는 것이에요. 우리는 매사에 제멋대로 추측해버리는 경향이 있죠.
The problem with making assumptions is that we believe they are the truth.
추측의 가장 큰 문제는 우리가 그것을 진실이라고 믿어버린다는 점이에요.
We could swear they are real. We make assumptions about what others are doing or thinking — we take it personally —
그것이 진짜라고 장담할 수도 있을 정도죠. 우리는 다른 사람들이 하는 일이나 생각에 대해 지레짐작하고, 그것을 개인적인 문제로 받아들여요.
then we blame them and react by sending emotional poison with our word.
그러고는 그들을 비난하며 말로써 감정의 독을 내뿜어 반응한답니다.
That is why whenever we make assumptions, we’re asking for problems.
그래서 우리가 추측을 할 때마다 스스로 문제를 자초하게 되는 것이죠.
We make an assumption, we misunderstand, we take it personally, and we end up creating a whole big drama for nothing.
추측하고 오해하고 개인적인 일로 받아들이다 보면, 결국 아무것도 아닌 일로 커다란 비극을 만들어내게 돼요.
