나는 계속해서 침묵했어요. “정말 즐거운 일이겠죠! 아저씨에게는 5억 개의 작은 방울들이 생기고,”

“나에게는 5억 개의 시원한 샘물이 생기는 거니까요.” 그러더니 아이도 입을 다물었어요. 울고 있었거든요.
조종사를 안심시키려 애써 밝은 미래를 이야기하던 어린 왕자도, 결국 이별 앞에서 참아왔던 눈물을 터뜨리고 마는 가슴 아픈 장면입니다.

제28장 – 이별
“Here is the place. Let me continue alone,” said the little prince and he sat down because he was afraid.
“여기가 바로 그곳이에요. 이제 나 혼자 가게 해 주세요.” 어린 왕자는 두려운 듯 자리에 주저앉으며 말했어요.
어린 왕자가 지구를 떠나기 위한 마지막 장소에 도착했습니다. 조종사와의 동행을 끝내고 홀로 마주해야 할 순간이 다가왔군요.

Then he said, “You know, my flower. I am responsible for her. And she’s so weak! She’s so naive.
그러고는 말을 이었죠. “아시잖아요, 내 꽃 말이에요. 난 그 꽃에 대해 책임이 있어요. 그런데 그 꽃은 너무나 가냘프고 순진해요.”

“세상으로부터 자신을 보호할 거라고는 고작 네 개의 가시뿐인데 말이에요.”
I sat down too because I couldn’t stand. “That’s all,” he said. He waited a little.
나도 더 이상 서 있을 수가 없어서 주저앉고 말았어요. “이제 다 됐어요.” 그가 말하더니 잠시 망설였어요.
Then he stood up. He took one step. I couldn’t move.
그러더니 다시 일어나 한 발자국을 내디뎠죠. 나는 꼼짝도 할 수 없었답니다.
