her brother told her he was looking for some freelance session work.
“I’m thinking of becoming a sound engineer,” he said. “Vaguely, anyway.”
Nora was happy to hear this. “Well, I think you should do it. I think you’d like it.
I don’t know why. I’ve just got a feeling.” “Okay.”
“I mean, it might not be as glamorous as being an international rock star,
but it might be... safer. Maybe even happier.” That was a tough sell,
and Joe wasn’t entirely buying it. But he smiled and nodded to himself.
“Actually, there’s a studio in Hammersmith and they’re looking for sound engineers.
