Scores of struggling figures engaged in ferocious tussles,
scrabbling and clawing with such wild abandon that most of the coveted cigars spilled on to the road and were trampled underfoot.

"Beppo!" she called, beside herself with joy, as she ran towards him.
"I've been looking for you everywhere. Where have you been all this time? Why did you never come to see me? Oh, Beppo, dearest Beppo!"
