and that light is the messenger of life, because it is alive and contains all information.
또한 빛은 살아 있으며 모든 정보를 담고 있기에, 생명을 전하는 전령이라는 것도요.
Then he realized that although he was made of stars, he was not those stars. “I am in-between the stars,” he thought.
그러다 그는 자신이 별로 만들어졌지만, 정작 그 별 자체는 아니라는 걸 깨달았어요. ‘나는 별들 사이에 존재하고 있구나.’ 그는 이렇게 생각했죠.
So he called the stars the tonal and the light between the stars the nagual,
그래서 그는 별들을 ‘토날(tonal)’이라 부르고, 별들 사이의 빛을 ‘나구알(nagual)’이라고 불렀어요.
토날(tonal)과 나구알(nagual)은 톨텍 철학의 핵심 개념입니다. 토날은 우리가 감각으로 느낄 수 있는 물질적 세상을, 나구알은 그 바탕이 되는 영적인 에너지나 무한한 공간을 의미합니다.
and he knew that what created the harmony and space between the two is Life or Intent.
그리고 그 둘 사이의 조화와 공간을 만드는 것이 바로 ‘생명’ 혹은 ‘의도’라는 것을 알았답니다.
Without Life, the tonal and the nagual could not exist.
생명이 없다면 토날과 나구알도 존재할 수 없었을 거예요.
Life is the force of the absolute, the supreme, the Creator who creates everything.
생명은 절대적이고 지고한 힘이며, 모든 것을 지어내는 창조주 그 자체니까요.
This is what he discovered: Everything in existence is a manifestation of the one living being we call God.
그가 발견한 진리는 이것이었어요. 존재하는 모든 것은 우리가 신이라 부르는 단 하나의 살아 있는 존재가 나타난 모습이라는 것이죠.
Everything is God. And he came to the conclusion that human perception is merely light perceiving light.
모든 것이 곧 신이었어요. 그리고 그는 인간의 지각이란 그저 빛이 빛을 지각하는 것에 불과하다는 결론에 도달했답니다.
He also saw that matter is a mirror — everything is a mirror that reflects light and creates images of that light —
그는 또한 물질이 거울과 같다는 사실을 보았어요. 모든 것은 빛을 반사하고 그 빛의 이미지를 만들어내는 거울인 셈이죠.
and the world of illusion, the Dream, is just like smoke which doesn’t allow us to see what we really are.
그리고 환상의 세계인 ‘꿈’은 우리의 본모습을 보지 못하게 가로막는 연기와 같다는 사실도요.
여기서 꿈(the Dream)은 우리가 잠들 때 꾸는 꿈이 아니라, 사회적 관습이나 편견으로 만들어진 환상의 세계를 뜻합니다. 본연의 모습을 보지 못하게 만드는 장막 같은 존재로 비유하고 있군요.
“The real us is pure love, pure light,” he said. This realization changed his life.
