연기 나는 거울
THREE THOUSAND YEARS AGO, THERE WAS A HUMAN just like you and me who lived near a city surrounded by mountains.
삼천 년 전, 산으로 둘러싸인 어느 도시 근처에 당신이나 저와 다를 바 없는 한 사람이 살고 있었어요.
The human was studying to become a medicine man, to learn the knowledge of his ancestors,
그는 조상들의 지혜를 배우며 치유자가 되기 위해 수행 중이었죠.
여기서 medicine man은 단순히 약을 짓는 사람이 아니라, 부족의 영적 지도자이자 치유자를 뜻합니다. 지식뿐만 아니라 영적인 힘을 다루는 존재라고 보시면 됩니다.
but he didn’t completely agree with everything he was learning. In his heart, he felt there must be something more.
하지만 배우는 모든 내용에 온전히 동의할 수는 없었어요. 마음 한편으로는 분명 무언가 더 중요한 게 있을 거라고 느끼고 있었거든요.
One day, as he slept in a cave, he dreamed that he saw his own body sleeping.
어느 날 동굴에서 잠을 자던 그는, 잠들어 있는 자신의 몸을 바라보는 꿈을 꾸게 되었어요.
He came out of the cave on the night of a new moon.
그는 초승달이 뜬 어느 밤, 동굴 밖으로 걸어 나왔답니다.
The sky was clear, and he could see millions of stars.
하늘은 아주 맑았고, 수많은 별이 눈부시게 빛나고 있었어요.
Then something happened inside of him that transformed his life forever.
그때 그의 내면에서 그의 인생을 영원히 바꿔놓을 놀라운 일이 일어났어요.
He looked at his hands, he felt his body, and he heard his own voice say, “I am made of light; I am made of stars.”
그는 자신의 손을 바라보고 몸의 감각을 느끼며, 자신의 목소리가 이렇게 말하는 것을 들었어요. “나는 빛으로 만들어졌구나. 나는 별로 이루어진 존재야.”
He looked at the stars again, and he realized that it’s not the stars that create light, but rather light that creates the stars.
그는 다시 별들을 바라보았고, 별이 빛을 만드는 게 아니라 빛이 별을 만든다는 사실을 깨달았답니다.
“Everything is made of light,” he said, “and the space in-between isn’t empty.”
그는 나지막이 읊조렸어요. “모든 것은 빛으로 이루어져 있어. 그리고 그사이의 빈 공간도 사실 비어 있는 게 아니야.”
