“I’m responsible for my rose,” the little prince repeated.
“나는 내 장미에 대해 책임이 있어.” 어린 왕자가 되풀이해 말했어요.
CHAPTER 21 – TRAINS
제21장 – 기차
“Good morning,” said the little prince. “Good morning,” said the man who worked at the railway station.
“안녕하세요.” 어린 왕자가 인사했어요. “안녕.” 철도원이 대답했죠.
철도원은 역에서 기차의 선로를 조정하는 사람입니다. 이 인물을 통해 목적지도 모른 채 바쁘게 살아가는 어른들의 모습을 엿볼 수 있습니다.
“What do you do here?” the little prince asked. “I change the direction of the trains,” said the man.
“여기서 무슨 일을 하시나요?” 어린 왕자가 물었어요. “기차의 방향을 바꿔주는 일을 한단다.” 철도원이 말했어요.
“I send some trains to the right, some trains to the left.
“어떤 기차는 오른쪽으로, 어떤 기차는 왼쪽으로 보내는 거지.”
And at that moment an express train shook the man cabin when it passed it at high speed.
그 순간, 특급열차 한 대가 굉음을 내며 엄청난 속도로 신호지기실을 뒤흔들고 지나갔어요.
“They are in a great hurry,” said the little prince. “What are they looking for?”
“기차가 정말 급하게 달려가네요.” 어린 왕자가 말했어요. “저 사람들은 무엇을 찾고 있는 건가요?”
“Nobody knows that,” said the man. And a second express train passed them, in the opposite direction.
“그건 아무도 모른단다.” 신호지기가 대답했어요. 그러자 두 번째 특급열차가 반대 방향으로 쌩 하고 지나갔죠.
“Are they coming back already?” asked the little prince.
“벌써 돌아오는 건가요?” 어린 왕자가 물었어요.
“They’re not the same,” said the man. “These are different people. They’re coming back.”
“아니, 아까 그 기차가 아니야.” 신호지기가 대답했어요. “서로 교대를 하는 거란다. 저 사람들은 돌아가는 중이지.”
“They weren’t satisfied where they were?” “People are never satisfied where they are,” said the man.
“먼저 있던 곳이 마음에 들지 않았나 보죠?” “사람은 자기가 있는 곳에 결코 만족하는 법이 없단다.” 신호지기가 말했어요.
