While they were eating, Mama did something I couldn’t understand. She knelt down on her knees in prayer.

After they had eaten their food, Mama started petting them. I could hear her voice but couldn’t make out her words.

I saw him put his arm around Mama. Side by side they stood for several minutes looking at my dogs.
아버지가 어머니의 어깨를 감싸 안는 것이 보였다. 두 분은 한참 동안 나란히 서서 내 개들을 바라보셨다.
When they turned to enter the house, I saw Mama dab at her eyes with her apron.

“I know,” Papa said, “but I think there’s a way. I’m going to have a talk with Grandpa.
“나도 아오.” 아버지가 말씀하셨다. “하지만 방법이 있을 것 같소. 장인어른과 이야기를 좀 해봐야겠구려.”
I don’t think that old foot of his is ever going to be the same again. He’s going to need some help around the store.”
“그분 발이 예전 같지는 않을 거요. 가게 일을 도와줄 사람이 필요할 게요.”
