he came back where he startid from and he just stood there a minit wiggeling his wiskers.

찰리는 앨저넌이 자신보다 훨씬 효율적으로 길을 찾고 있다는 사실을 아직 눈치채지 못한 것 같습니다. 그저 작은 동물이 영리하게 움직이는 모습이 신기하고 재미있게 느껴지는 모양이군요.
But then Algernon kept going all the way threw that thing all the rite ways till he came out where it said FINISH and he made a squeek.
하지만 앨저넌은 계속해서 미로를 통과했고, 정확한 길을 찾아 ‘끝’이라고 적힌 곳으로 나오며 찍찍 소리를 냈다.
Burt says that means he was happy because he did the thing rite.
버트는 그것이 앨저넌이 문제를 제대로 맞춰서 기쁘다는 뜻이라고 말해 주었다.
Boy I said thats a smart mouse. Burt said woud you like to race against Algernon.
나는 정말 똑똑한 쥐라고 감탄했다. 버트가 물었다. “앨저넌과 경주를 해 보겠어요?”
I said sure and he said he had a differnt kind of amaze made of wood with rows skratched in it and an electrik stick like a pencil.
나는 좋다고 대답했다. 그는 나무로 만든 다른 종류의 미로를 가져왔는데, 길들이 파여 있었고 연필처럼 생긴 전기 막대기도 있었다.
electrik stick은 미로에서 벽에 닿거나 잘못된 길로 가면 전기 자극을 주는 도구입니다. 당시 행동주의 심리학에서 실험 대상의 학습을 유도하기 위해 흔히 사용하던 장치 중 하나라고 볼 수 있습니다.
And he coud fix up Algernons amaze to be the same like that one so we could both be doing the same kind.
그는 앨저넌의 미로도 그것과 똑같이 맞춰서 우리가 같은 종류의 미로로 경주할 수 있게 해 주었다.
He moved all the bords around on Algernons tabel because they come apart and he could put them together in differnt ways.
앨저넌 테이블의 판들은 분리가 가능해서 그는 판들을 옮겨 다른 방식으로 조립했다.
And then he put the skreen back on top so Algernon woudnt jump over any rows to get to the finish.
그러고 나서 앨저넌이 통로를 뛰어넘어 끝까지 가지 못하도록 다시 위에 가림막을 덮었다.
Then he gave me the electrik stick and showd me how to put it in between the rows
그는 나에게 전기 막대기를 건네주며 길 사이에 대는 법을 알려 주었다.
