“Yes, Miss Honey, I do,” Matilda said, chewing her bread and margarine.

“So far as I know,” Miss Honey went on, “nobody else in the history of the world has been able to compel an object to move”
“내가 아는 한,” 허니 선생님이 말을 이었다. “인류 역사상 그 누구도 물체를 움직이게 하지는 못했단다.”
“without touching it or blowing on it or using any outside help at all.”
“손을 대거나 입으로 바람을 불거나, 그 어떤 외부의 도움도 받지 않고 말이야.”
Matilda nodded but said nothing. “The fascinating thing,” Miss Honey said, “would be to find out the real limit of this power of yours.”
마틸다는 고개를 끄덕였지만 아무 말도 하지 않았다. “흥미로운 점은,” 허니 선생님이 말했다. “네가 가진 이 힘의 진정한 한계가 어디까지인지 알아보는 일이겠지.”
“Oh, I know you think you can move just about anything there is, but I have my doubts about that.”
“오, 네 생각에는 세상 거의 모든 것을 움직일 수 있을 것 같겠지만, 나는 그게 조금 의심스럽구나.”
“I'd love to try something really huge,” Matilda said.
“정말로 거대한 걸 한번 시도해 보고 싶어요.” 마틸다가 말했다.
“What about distance?” Miss Honey asked. “Would you always have to be close to the thing you were pushing?”
“거리는 어떨까?” 허니 선생님이 물었다. “네가 미는 물체와 항상 가까이 있어야만 하는 걸까?”
“I simply don't know,” Matilda said. “But it would be fun to find out.”
“저도 잘 모르겠어요.” 마틸다가 대답했다. “하지만 알아내는 건 재미있을 것 같아요.”

허니 선생님의 이야기
새로운 에피소드의 소제목입니다. 허니 선생님이 자신의 가슴 아픈 과거와 가족에 얽힌 사연을 마틸다에게 들려주기 시작합니다.
“We mustn't hurry this,” Miss Honey said, “so let's have another cup of tea. And do eat that other slice of bread. You must be hungry.”
“서두를 것 없단다.” 허니 선생님이 말했다. “그러니 차 한 잔 더 하자꾸나. 나머지 빵 한 조각도 어서 먹으렴. 배가 고플 텐데.”
Matilda took the second slice and started eating it slowly.
마틸다는 두 번째 조각을 집어 들고 천천히 먹기 시작했다.
The margarine wasn't at all bad. She doubted whether she could have told the difference if she hadn't known.
마가린 맛은 전혀 나쁘지 않았다. 미리 알지 못했다면 버터와 구별하지 못했을지도 모를 정도였다.
