And I was proud when I told him that I could fly. Then he said, “What! You fell from the sky?”
내가 하늘을 날 수 있다고 말할 때 나는 무척 자랑스러웠어요. 그러자 그가 말했죠. “뭐라고요! 아저씨도 하늘에서 떨어졌나요?”
“Yes,” I said. “Oh! It’s funny!” And the little prince started to laugh very loudly.
“네.” 내가 대답했어요. “와! 그거 정말 재미있네요!” 어린 왕자는 아주 크게 웃기 시작했어요.
I was angry. My situation was serious. How could somebody think that it was funny?
나는 조금 화가 났어요. 내 상황은 아주 심각했거든요. 어떻게 이걸 재미있다고 생각할 수 있을까요?
Then he added, “So you also fell from the sky like me. What planet are you from?”
그는 덧붙여 말했어요. “그럼 아저씨도 나처럼 하늘에서 떨어졌군요. 어느 별에서 왔나요?”
어린 왕자가 단순히 사막 어딘가에서 조난된 아이가 아니라 다른 행성에서 온 존재임이 암시되며, 이야기의 공간적 배경이 우주로 확장되는 중요한 지점입니다.
At that moment I started to understand more about him.
그 순간, 나는 그에 대해 더 많은 것을 이해하기 시작했어요.
And I asked him quickly, “Do you come from another planet?”
그래서 얼른 물어보았죠. “그럼 당신도 다른 별에서 온 건가요?”
But he didn’t answer me. He only moved his head gently.
하지만 그는 대답 대신 고개를 가만히 끄덕였어요.
He was still looking at my plane. “Of course, on that thing you couldn’t come from very far.”
그는 여전히 내 비행기를 바라보며 말했어요. “물론, 저런 걸 타고 아주 멀리서 왔을 리는 없겠네요.”
And he started to think deeply. He was thinking for a long time.
그러더니 깊은 생각에 잠겼어요. 아주 오랫동안 말이에요.
Then he took his sheep out of his pocket. And he started to look at the sheep carefully.
그러고는 주머니에서 양을 꺼내어 아주 소중하게 들여다보기 시작했답니다.
상자 그림을 소중히 간직하며 들여다보는 모습에서, 상상 속의 양을 실제 생명체처럼 아끼는 어린 왕자의 동심을 엿볼 수 있습니다.

You can imagine that I wanted to know more when the little prince spoke about falling from the sky.
어린 왕자가 하늘에서 떨어졌다는 이야기를 했을 때 내가 얼마나 더 알고 싶었을지 상상할 수 있겠지요?
