“내가 사는 곳은 모든 게 아주 작아요. 나에겐 양이 필요해요. 양 한 마리만 그려 주세요.” 그래서 나는 그림을 한 장 그렸답니다.

He looked at it carefully, then he said, “No. This sheep is already very ill.
아이는 그림을 주의 깊게 살펴보더니 말했어요. “아니에요. 이 양은 벌써 병이 아주 많이 들었잖아요.”
Make me another.” So I made another picture.
“다른 걸로 다시 그려 주세요.” 그래서 나는 또 다른 그림을 그렸죠.

My friend smiled gently at me, “You have to see it too. This is not a sheep.

It’s a ram. It has horns.” So then I made another picture.
“이건 숫양이에요. 뿔이 달려 있잖아요.” 그래서 나는 또다시 그림을 그렸어요.

But it wasn’t good either. “This sheep is too old. I want a sheep which will live a long time.”
하지만 그것도 마음에 들어 하지 않았어요. “이 양은 너무 늙었어요. 나는 아주 오래 살 수 있는 양을 원해요.”
At that moment, my patience was gone, because I was in a hurry to start repairing my engine, I quickly drew this picture.
서둘러 엔진 수리를 시작해야 했던 나는 참을성이 바닥나 버렸고, 대충 이 그림을 슥슥 그려 주었어요.
생존이 걸린 긴박한 엔진 수리 상황에서 오는 화자의 조급함과 심리적 압박이 잘 나타납니다.

And I said, “That’s a box. The sheep which you want is inside.”
