“When you finish washing and you put on your clothes each morning, then it’s time to clean your planet very carefully.
“아침에 일어나 몸을 씻고 옷을 입고 나면, 아주 정성 들여 별을 가꾸어야 해요.”
It’s necessary to pull the baobabs, when you can see them.
“바오바브나무를 다른 풀과 구별할 수 있게 되는 즉시 뽑아버려야 하거든요.”
Sometimes it isn’t easy because they are similar to roses when they are very young. It’s a very boring job, but very easy.”
“아주 어릴 때는 장미와 무척 비슷하게 생겨서 쉽지 않을 때도 있지만요. 아주 귀찮은 일이지만, 그리 어려운 일은 아니에요.”
어린 싹일 때 장미와 비슷하다는 설명은, 처음에는 문제의 본질을 파악하거나 나쁜 싹을 구별해내기가 그만큼 어렵다는 사실을 비유적으로 나타냅니다.
And one day he said to me, “You should draw a beautiful picture which will show all this to the children.
어느 날 그가 나에게 말했어요. “아이들이 이 모든 걸 잘 알 수 있도록 아저씨가 멋진 그림을 하나 그려주세요.”
This information will be useful to them if they travel one day.
“언젠가 아이들이 여행을 할 때 이 그림이 아주 유용할 거예요.”
It’s sometimes OK to postpone your work. But when it comes to baobabs, it’s always a catastrophe.
“어떤 일들은 나중으로 미뤄도 괜찮지만, 바오바브나무만큼은 절대로 미루면 안 돼요. 그랬다간 정말 끔찍한 일이 벌어지고 말거든요.”
I knew a planet with a lazy man. He forgot to pull three little bushes.”
“내가 아는 어느 별에 게으름뱅이가 살았는데, 그 사람은 작은 나무 세 그루를 뽑는 걸 깜빡하고 말았대요.”
And, when the little prince described it to me, I drew this planet.
어린 왕자가 설명해 준 대로, 나는 그 별의 모습을 그렸어요.
I don’t want to be a moralist. But the danger of baobabs is so little known.
나는 훈계나 늘어놓는 사람처럼 보이고 싶지는 않아요. 하지만 바오바브나무의 위험성에 대해서는 너무 알려진 게 없답니다.
평소 잔소리하기를 꺼려하던 화자가 이례적으로 강한 어조로 경고를 전하고 있습니다. 바오바브나무가 상징하는 위험이 그만큼 치명적임을 강조하려는 의도로 보입니다.
And there is a great possibility that if you are lost on an asteroid, you will meet such danger.
소행성에서 길을 잃었을 때 이런 위험에 처할 가능성이 아주 높거든요.
So now I will tell you what you must do. I will say it in simple words. “Children, be careful with baobabs!”
