“You said Dona Cecília Paim wouldn’t believe the things you do outside school. You’re good with your little brother and Glória.”
“So why do you think you change so much?” “I don’t know. All I know is that everything I do leads to trouble.”
“The whole street knows what I’ve been up to. It’s as if the devil whispers things in my ear.”
“Otherwise I wouldn’t get up to so much monkey business, as my Uncle Edmundo calls it.”
“Do you know what I did once to Uncle Edmundo? I didn’t tell you, did I?” “No.”
“Well, it was a good six months ago. He’d got a hammock from up north and was really pleased with it.”
“He wouldn’t even let us swing in it, the son of a bitch...” “What did you say?”
