Then two days before the science fair I was candling Bonnie when I noticed something.

So the three of us crowded around and watched Bonnie’s heart beat, and even my mother had to admit that it was absolutely amazing.

Clyde was the first to pip, and of course he did it right before I had to leave for school.

pip은 병아리가 부화하기 위해 부리로 알껍데기를 톡톡 쪼아 작은 구멍을 내는 첫 단계를 뜻하는 용어입니다.
His little beak cracked through, and while I held my breath and waited, he rested. And rested.
녀석의 작은 부리가 껍질을 뚫고 나왔고, 내가 숨을 죽이며 기다리는 동안 녀석은 쉬고 또 쉬었다.
알을 깨고 나오는 과정은 아기 병아리에게 엄청난 에너지가 소모되는 고된 작업입니다. 한 번에 나오지 못하고 중간중간 휴식을 취하는 병아리의 모습이 생생하게 묘사되어 있습니다.
Finally his beak poked through again, but almost right away, he rested again.
