“Your mother?” laughed Squid. “She’ll worry if I don’t.” Squid scowled. Stanley looked around the room.

We’ve been out on the lake all day, so I’m pretty tired. Once I pass the swimming test, I’ll get to learn how to water-ski.
온종일 호수에 나가 있었더니 꽤 피곤하네요. 수영 테스트를 통과하면 수상스키 배우는 법을 배우게 될 거예요.
“I...” He stopped writing as he became aware that somebody was reading over his shoulder.
“저는……” 누군가 어깨너머로 자기 편지를 읽고 있다는 사실을 깨달은 그가 글쓰기를 멈췄다.
He turned to see Zero, standing behind the couch. “I don’t want her to worry about me,” he explained.
고개를 돌려 보니 제로가 소파 뒤에 서 있었다. “엄마가 나 때문에 걱정하시는 게 싫어서 그래.” 그가 설명했다.
Zero said nothing. He just stared at the letter with a serious, almost angry look on his face.
제로는 아무 말도 없었다. 그는 그저 진지하다 못해 거의 화가 난 듯한 표정으로 편지를 빤히 쳐다보았다.
Stanley slipped it back into the stationery box. “Did the shoes have red X’s on the back?” Zero asked him.
스탠리는 편지를 다시 문구 상자에 쓱 밀어 넣었다. “그 신발 뒷부분에 빨간색 X자가 있었어?” 제로가 물었다.
