Conor didn’t say anything. But he knew what she meant. His mum was her daughter.

It was certainly a place to start. His grandma turned off the engine and opened her door. “We have to hurry,” she said.

His grandma burst into his mum’s hospital room ahead of him with a terrible question on her face.
할머니는 참담한 표정으로 코너보다 먼저 엄마의 병실로 뛰어 들어갔다.
But there was a nurse inside who answered immediately. “It’s okay,” she said. “You’re in time.”
하지만 병실 안에 있던 간호사가 즉시 대답했다. “괜찮아요. 늦지 않았습니다.”
Youre in time(늦지 않았습니다)이라는 말은 엄마가 숨을 거두기 전, 코너가 마지막 인사를 나눌 수 있는 시간이 허락되었음을 뜻합니다.
His grandma put her hands to her mouth and let out a cry of relief.
할머니는 두 손으로 입을 가리며 안도의 울음을 터뜨렸다.
“I see you found him,” the nurse said, looking at Conor. “Yes,” was all his grandma said.
“아이를 찾으셨군요.” 간호사가 코너를 바라보며 말했다. “네.” 할머니는 짧게 대답했다.
Both she and Conor were looking at his mum. The room was mostly dark, just a light on over her bed where she lay.
할머니와 코너는 나란히 엄마를 바라보았다. 병실 안은 거의 어두웠고, 엄마가 누워 있는 침대 위로만 조명이 켜져 있었다.
Her eyes were closed, and her breathing sounded like there was a weight on her chest.
엄마는 두 눈을 감고 있었고, 숨을 쉴 때마다 마치 가슴 위에 무거운 짐이라도 얹힌 듯한 소리가 났다.
The nurse left them with her, and his grandma sat down in the chair on the other side of his mum’s bed,
간호사는 두 사람만 남겨둔 채 자리를 비켜주었다. 할머니는 침대 반대편 의자에 앉았다.
leaning forward to pick up one of his mum’s hands.
그러고는 몸을 앞으로 숙여 엄마의 한쪽 손을 맞잡았다.
